Carrier exits for 2027: Cigna everywhere, Molina in Florida, Medica in Kansas and Oklahoma, CareSource in Ohio

Insurers are leaving the Marketplace in 24 states for 2027. If a client's carrier is on this list, their plan ends Dec 31 and they need to choose a new one.

The bottom lineClients on exiting carriers should be re-enrolled by an agent, not auto-renewed into whatever the Marketplace picks.

More insurers are leaving the ACA Marketplace for 2027 than joining it. Carriers are exiting in 24 states, while seven states gain a new carrier: California, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Minnesota, Ohio and Texas.

The biggest exits

  • Cigna will offer no Marketplace plans in any state for 2027, following Aetna's exit after 2025.
  • Molina is leaving Florida.
  • Medica is leaving Kansas and Oklahoma.
  • CareSource is leaving Ohio, West Virginia and Indiana.
  • UnitedHealthcare is leaving Georgia.

Why it matters

When a carrier exits, the Marketplace can auto-renew members into a different plan chosen by an algorithm. That plan may not include the client's doctors or medications, and the cost can change sharply. Picking a new plan with a licensed agent before Dec 15 keeps January 1 coverage on the client's terms.
